The Chevy Silverado 1500 LT model is a light duty truck with heavy duty features and function. For drivers who need a capable, sturdy truck that can easily double as a comfortable and functional field office, the Silverado will have wide appeal.

Interior

The Silverado interior isn’t flashy, but it is well-constructed. You won’t have bits and pieces of plastic popping off with every bonk and there are no oddly-placed ports or vents where there shouldn’t be. While the look and feel of controls and panels could use a modern facelift, the actual functions of the vehicle are current, including an intuitive 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen display and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The center gauge cluster is also intuitive and lets drivers quickly access the many available features.

The crew cab, standard bed variation is recommended. Compared to the stingy extended cab, the rear seat in the crew will provide even the largest members of your team first class legroom and seat width. There’s plenty of space to stow gear and different configurations allow you to flip up the rear seat for extra room or the front center console for a 3rd middle seat in the front. One more thing: the power driver seat with power lumbar support is exceptionally comfortable.

Exterior

It’s a mixed bag. The understated Silverado grill is one of the most handsome in this vehicle class and, in this trim, comes with great looking/working LED headlights. In our opinion, the Silverado exterior is a little too squared off, but still better sculpted than bland competitors such as the Toyota Tundra.

The 2021 model year doesn’t get many exterior updates from previous years, but one that’s a real crowd-pleaser is the new available “Multi-Flex” tailgate. Capable of several different configurations, your formerly boring tailgate can now become a work surface, load stop, full-length step and more.

Features

The “LT” in Silverado 1500 LT stands for “Luxury Touring” and that’s most evident in the packed and loaded features list you’ll find in this trim. There are at nearly 30 noteworthy features (See below) ranging from LED cargo lighting to front and rear heated seats. Who needs so many features you ask? Guys who spend a lot of time in their trucks. What kind of guys spend a lot of time in their trucks? Guys who use their trucks not just for work, but weekend play.

Power & Handling

Within the LT trim, you can opt for four different engine choices. The base 2.7-liter turbo inline-four has 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque with a max towing capacity of 9,400 pounds. We found this engine to deliver confident and smooth acceleration for a vehicle this large and in fact, it delivers more horsepower than the available turbo-diesel engine (277 hp) and the 4.3-liter V-6 (285hp).

Still, if you put a premium on power, Chevy offers a beastly 6.2-liter V-8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine uses a 10-speed automatic transmission to achieve a  maximum towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds. It’s safe to say you’ll never want for power, whether you’re hauling concrete to your job site or your boat to a lake.

As far as handling, we rate the Silverado just average in terms of body roll and steering feel.
